About our Capital Campaign
On Wednesday, August 12, 2015, the Museum officially launched its Capital Campaign effort to expand the facility. On a daily basis, the Massillon Museum celebrates local history and artwork, educates members and visitors in various art forms and historically significant events, creates opportunities for exposure to social offerings, and preserves the shared heritage of the Western Stark County community. However, space limitations hamper its ability to host significant gatherings of people, and the Museum is only able to effectively exhibit about 5% of its collection at a time.
The museum capital campaign is designed to expand the capacity of the Museum to display its permanent collection, provide functional, accessible space for educational programming and community meeting needs, partner with the Massillon Tiger Football Booster Club and the Paul E. Brown Museum in the preservation and exhibition of its collection, and continue to serve as an economic catalyst for downtown Massillon. Chaired by Bob and Nancy Gessner, this campaign is projected to last two years. A number of businesses, foundations and individuals have already pledged to support this historic project.

Growing to Sustain Community Expectations for Generations
Celebrate!
The Massillon Museum has been preserving local history and exhibiting artwork since 1933. In 1996, the Museum moved from a wing of the Massillon Public Library to the building it now occupies. The collection and programming had exceeded existing space. Once again, this vital institution needs to expand to meet increased preservation, exhibition, and programming needs.
Educate!
Two of MassMuʼs most popular programs—the Brown Bag Lunch series and the History Discussion Group—need larger, more suitable accommodations. Classes, workshops, school tours, and special events need more room to maintain the quality our community expects.
Create!
Currently, less than 5% of the Museumʼs collection can be displayed in the present galleries. Additionally, the Massillon Museum is collaborating with the Massillon Tiger Football Booster Club to ensure the preservation and exhibition of the communityʼs football heritage. This adds to current storage and gallery space demands.
Preserve!
The memories and mementos of the generations who built our community are kept safe in the Massillon Museum. The stories of those who came before us, their legacies, and their contributions will echo into the future because our Massillon Museum is here to preserve our shared heritage.
Help the Massillon Museum Move Forward!
