Do the Mu Workshops

FREE workshops for all ages! Do the Mu is the first Saturday of every month. Attendees are welcome to stay as short or long as they would like. No registration is required. Join us for a different art or history museum workshop taught by local artists or Museum staff. Try something new! 

Upcoming Do the Mu: Saturday, October 5, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. with Aalexa Young. Learn zombie-inspired makeup in preparation for the Massillon Zombie Walk! Attendees should provide their own makeup and tools. The instructor recommends white face paint; black, red, and grey eyeshadow; and setting powder. This palette, https://a.co/d/0wibpHF, is also recommended. Mehron brand products are preferred.

Ceramics Open Studio

Ceramics Open Studio takes place Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. When you register, select your preferred day, and stay for as short or as long as you would like during the 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. time frame! The cost for Open Studio is $50 per nonmember per month, or $40 per member per month. Attendees may bring their own clay or purchase a 25-pound bag of clay from MassMu for $25. Any outside clay must be approved by the Ceramics Studio Manager. All Open Studio registrants must have taken a pottery class previously, whether at MassMu or another institution, and must complete a screening survey to show they are comfortable working independently because Open Studio is not led by an instructor. The MassMu LL kilns fire at 04/06 for bisque firing and 6 for glaze firing. Please note the Massillon Museum Ceramics Studio is an educational space operated by a nonprofit organization and therefore cannot accommodate production potters.

Virtual Yoga Museum Workshop with Leslie Schneider
Virtual Yoga

Enjoy relaxing Virtual Yoga sessions led by instructor Leslie Schneider! Videos can be accessed via MassMu's Facebook and YouTube pages free of charge.

Lunchtime Yoga

Lunchtime Yoga takes place at MassMu each Friday from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. Join certified yoga instructors for a relaxing yoga session on the MassMu lawn. Rain/cold location is inside the Museum. Relax and refocus as you are guided through your practice. Students must bring their own mats and it is recommended that they bring their own props. This class is beginner friendly. All ages and levels are welcome. The cost is $6 per class or $15 per 3-class bundle. Register upon arrival at the Museum!

Wheel Throwing with CJ Ritenour

Join CJ Ritenour for a wheel throwing class series! Introductory and intermediate levels welcome. Ages 18 and older. $215/member. $245/nonmember. Fee includes all eight dates, tools, and firing. Clay purchased separately: $25/25 pounds. Register at MassMu.org/Tickets or by calling 330-833-4061!

The class will take place on ThursdaysOctober 3, October 10, October 17, October 24, November 14, November 21, December 5, and December 12, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. each date.

Fall Planter Box Workshop with Lepley & Co.

Adults and children ages 8 and older are invited to join the Lepley & Co. team at MassMu on Sunday, October 6, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.!

Mini Monster Maker Workshop

Adults and children ages 9 and older are invited to join artist Bili Kribbs for a Mini Monster Maker Workshop on Saturday, October 19, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.! Students will sculpt their own monsters out of air dry clay.

Make Obie Workshop

Go Tigers! Adults and children age 3 and older will hand build Obie out of clay in the Ceramics Studio on Sunday, October 20, from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. The price of this workshop, $35 ($30 member) per person, includes all supplies.

Tots 'n' Pots

Children ages three through eight are invited to make their own clay masterpieces in the Massillon Museum’s Tots 'n' Pots class on Sunday, November 3, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.! The fee, $25 ($20 for MassMu members) per adult/child pair, includes all supplies.

Thankful for Creativity Workshop

Are you thankful for creativity? Join instructor Angelina Verginis for a workshop on Tuesday, November 12, celebrating creativity! Children in preschool through second grade will work with the instructor from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Students will explore various media and will make a mixed media collage inspired by what they are thankful for this year.

Registration can be completed at MassMu.org/Tickets or by calling 330-833-4061. The workshop cost $20 ($16 member) per child includes all supplies.

Thankful for Creativity Workshop

Are you thankful for creativity? Join instructor Angelina Verginis for a workshop on Tuesday, November 12, celebrating creativity! Children in third through seventh grade will work with the instructor from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. Students will explore various media and will make a mixed media collage inspired by what they are thankful for this year.

Art & Conversation with BeYoutiful Weirdo

Children in second grade and older are invited to join Ke’Aunte Harris as she leads an art workshop focused on building self-confidence on Saturday, November 16, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. This workshop will be themed “Pieces of Me.” Students will make puzzles.

Poetry Open Mic with Expanding Circles Collective, LLC

Read your own work or your favorite poet’s writing! Following the Open Mic, attendees are invited to join a brief writing workshop. The event will take place in the Fred F. Silk Community Room Gallery on Saturday, December 14, at 2:30 p.m. All ages are welcome to perform or attend.

Education Department Policies

Cancellation & Refund Policies

Programs may be postponed or canceled when enrollment minimums are not met or due to inclement weather conditions. The Museum will notify students of a cancellation prior to the start of a program. Students will be notified via the email or phone provided at the time of registration. If the Massillon Museum cancels a program, the Museum will issue a full refund to all registered individuals.

The Massillon Museum respectfully requests at least 48 hours' notice for cancellations. This will allow us to offer your spot to another student. Refund requests received from students will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Cancellations made 48 hours or more in advance of the program date will receive a 100% refund. Cancellations made within 36 hours of the program date will receive a 50% refund. Missed programs or cancellations made within 24 hours of the program date will not receive a refund. Refunded students will be responsible for paying any payment processing fees.

Emergency Medical Policy

If I/my child require(s) emergency medical treatment while at the Massillon Museum, I authorize the Massillon Museum to contact emergency medical services and to perform treatment as deemed necessary.

Liability

The Massillon Museum and its staff and contractors assume no liability in the event of accident or loss of personal property at any time.

Photo Release

The Massillon Museum may photograph educational activities and events for promotional and documentary purposes. By entering the Massillon Museum or by enrolling yourself or a family member in a class, workshop, or other educational program, you grant the Massillon Museum, its representatives, and its employees the right to use photographs of you and/or your work (or your child and/or your child's work, if applicable) in print and/or electronically, including but not limited to on the Museum's social media pages and website, without financial compensation. Contact the Massillon Museum to opt out of this policy.

Program Discounts

through Museums for All and Blue Star Museums

The Massillon Museum first became a Blue Star Museum in 2014. As a Blue Star Museum, the Massillon Museum offers a discount on museum workshop classes, event tickets, and Museum shop purchases to the nation's active duty military personnel currently serving in the United States Military—Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard (including Reservists, National Guardsman regardless of status, US Public Health Commissioned Corps, and NOAA Commissioned Corps)—and up to five family members. The Blue Star Museums program runs from Armed Forces Day through Labor Day each year, but active duty military personnel are able to receive these discounts at MassMu year-round upon request. Please call 330-833-4061 or stop by the Museum to register for programs or make purchases at the Museum shop using this discount.

Through Museums for All, those receiving food assistance (SNAP benefits) can gain free or reduced admission to more than 600 museums throughout the United States simply by presenting their EBT card. The Massillon Museum will extend annual member benefits to those with EBT cards for just half the price of regular membership rates, so you and your family can enjoy all the magic and wonder here.  If you receive food assistance, simply present your EBT card when you arrive or give us a call at 330-833-4061 to receive this specially priced membership rate.
