Island Party 2022

Join us for an in-person Island Party on Friday, July 15, 2022 from 6:00-11:00pm!

All are welcome to attend this free, family-friendly and accessible event as our way of extending thanks to the community for supporting its Museum. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and invite your friends. We'll welcome fan favorites Carlos Jones and the P.L.U.S Band to set the tone for what is always a magical evening in the heart of downtown. The band's reggae rhythms carry this annual party and guests are invited to dance or even limbo along! Doors open at 5:30pm and food service begins are 6:00pm. The Museum's Aultman Health Foundation Gallery will remain open until 8:00pm. Greatness Cafe will remain open until 9:00pm during the Island Party. Food, beverages, and fun accessories can be purchased onsite. This year's limited-edition t-shirt was designed by Jess Bennett.

2022 Sponsors:

We want to thank Aqua Ohio, Buehler's, Miller and Company Sanitation Services, City of Massillon, and Massillon Parks and Recreation for providing in-kind support.  We're grateful for all our amazing community resources that assist us with bringing this fun and family-friendly annual event to YOU!

New Partners:

Stop out to try some refreshing beer from our friends at Paradigm Shift, it pairs perfectly with the delicious Irie Island Jamaican Restaurant sides! While you are indulging in great food and drinks, watch the amazing fire performance by Divine Harmony. We can't wait to see everyone!

Kids Art Activity:

This year's art activity in the event's education area will be making your very own hermit crab! Kelsey and Mariel have had fun making samples to inspire your creativity, and are busy preparing all the supplies so your imagination can crawl out of its shell!

Parking:

Parking is located in the city's municipal lot located behind the Museum and next to Duncan Plaza. There is also parking in the adjacent lot on the corner of First Street and Lincoln Way East, next to Benders and across from Shearer's Foods. Handicapped parking can be accessed on the corner of Charles Ave SE and First Street across from Veterans Memorial Park. Parking is also available at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, accessible via South Avenue and Oak Street entrances, and St. John’s UCC, accessible via First St SE.

T-Shirts:

Our 2022 Island Party shirts were designed by artist Jess Bennett!

Inspired by an appreciation for all things pop art and pop culture, printmaker Jess Bennett (AKA Letterpress Jess) continues the historic tradition of letterpress printmaking from her Canton, Ohio print shop. In 2013, Bennett rescued a 2,500 pound cast iron printing press, affectionately known as “Big Sal,” from the scrap heap. Today, she utilizes a mix of vintage type and cuts alongside modern photopolymer plates to take her designs from the computer to the printed product, including greeting cards and art prints. Bennett has participated in group and juried shows and maker markets throughout Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania and Illinois and her goods are available in more than 250 shops around the country.

Shirts are $15 dollars, or FREE when you purchase or renew your MassMu membership. Call 330.833.4061 for more information.
