Guest Operations Assistant – Part-Time - $11.00/hour (24 hours/week)

The Massillon Museum Guest Operations Assistant is an hourly, part-time position whose primary responsibility is to represent the Museum as a welcoming first contact for guests. A professional, positive attitude is required to perform the duties with enthusiasm. Stationed at the Museum’s main lobby, this individual communicates with visitors by answering or referring inquiries made in person or by phone and knowing where best to direct them. The position requires the use of computer technologies such as entering guest information into the Museum’s survey software and operating a point of sale system to facilitate cash and credit financial transactions for everything from artwork sales to purchases made from the Museum’s Shop with accuracy. Other responsibilities include registering guests for classes and events and properly directing guests throughout the building; assisting with incoming and outgoing front desk deliveries; retaining knowledge about current and upcoming classes, exhibitions, and events; maintaining a clean reception area by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; ensuring brochure racks are tidy and stocked with appropriate materials; assisting with opening and closing the Museum’s frontline at beginning and end of day; and contributing to the team effort by assisting with related tasks as needed.

This position requires physical activities that require sitting for long periods of time. Applicants should be familiar and comfortable with Microsoft Office, and with using applications for entering visitor information on a tablet touchscreen. In addition, applicants must be comfortable answering phones and interacting with the public, which requires the ability to demonstrate effective communication skills and patience.

This position reports to the Guest Operations Manager, who will also schedule the Guest Operations Assistant. This position offers flexibility and requires reporting to the Museum on the occasional weekend and for some special events. Online attendance at a weekly staff meeting is required.

A high school diploma or GED is required. At least two years’ experience with frontline positions is required. Applicants who have experience in related areas, such as hospitality or public relations, are highly encouraged to apply. The employee has an opportunity to participate in the Museum’s Simple IRA retirement program after 30 days. PTO is earned from the start date, with eligibility for paid vacation time starting at the first-year anniversary date. Interested applicants should send a cover letter and resume to the attention of the Personnel Committee at the Massillon Museum by Sunday, February 20, 2022 at 5:00pm to jobs@massillonmuseum.org.
