MassMu to Host First Pet-Friendly Event for Pet Members

News Release:  MassMu to Host First Pet-Friendly Event for Pet Members

Are you looking for a new way to experience your Massillon Museum? The Museum’s new pet member program provides opportunities for pets and their people to enjoy pet-friendly events, art activities, and informative sessions with pet professionals.

The first event, Pet Member Portraits, will be held Saturday, May 7, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Museum lobby. Pet members and their owners are invited to attend and sit for two poses with photographer Mandy Altimus Pond. Pond, who is the Museum’s archivist, is respected regionally for her creative portrait photography. To see examples of her work, visit

The pet portrait event is free for pet members that have joined at the $10 level. Pet memberships are also available for just $5 for pets who are not able to visit the Museum for pet-friendly events. Memberships for both pets and people may be purchased at the Museum’s reception desk at any time. Pet memberships purchased upon arrival at Pet Member Portraits will be eligible for the photo session as well as a MassMu logo bandanna, which each new pet member receives.

“At MassMu we understand how important pets are to their owners, and we think our new pet membership offers an added dimension to the community’s participation at the Museum,” said Scot Phillips, who oversees the Museum’s membership program.

The Museum’s vintage photobooth will also be in operation during the event. Fun photo strips with pets and costumes can be made for just $4. Anderson's in the City (the lobby café) and OHregionalities (the Museum shop) will be open.

The Massillon Museum receives operating support from the Ohio Arts Council and ArtsinStark to supplement its primary local funding.

The Massillon Museum is located at 121 Lincoln Way East in downtown Massillon.  Free parking is available on adjacent streets and in nearby public lots. For more information, call 330-833-4061 or visit A visit to the Massillon Museum is always free.
