MassMu to Host Annual Celebration in Art (2016)

News Release:  MassMu to Host Annual Celebration in Art

Each year, the Massillon Museum exhibits artwork by area school children. The gallery bursts with color, imagination, and many more works of art than it usually displays. Art teachers in all schools within and surrounding Massillon have been invited to submit artwork by their students from kindergarten through high school.

The 2016 Celebration in Art show will open on Saturday, Januaary 30, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., with a reception for young artists from public and parochial schools throughout Western Stark County. Refreshments will be served in the lobby. The party is free and open to everyone; reservations are not necessary.

Members of Ballet Le Rêve will entertain at 4:00 p.m. Ballet Le Rêve is a non-profit, pre-professional ballet company dedicated to serving its community by promoting art appreciation through excellence in dance performance and performing arts education. The company trains at the Turning Pointe School of Dance in Canal Fulton under the artistic direction of Nurzhan Kulybaev.

The Celebration in Art show will include more than 250 pieces of student artwork—both two-dimensional works and three-dimensional creations. Art teachers from 15 schools have submitted artwork: Washington High School, Edison Middle School, Jackson High School, Tuslaw Middle School, Tuslaw Elementary School, Tuslaw High School, Watson Elementary School, Whipple Heights Elementary School, Massillon Intermediate and Junior High School, Gorrell Elementary School, Pfeiffer Intermediate School, St. Mary School, Northwest Primary School, T.C. Knapp Elementary School, and Jackson Middle School.

At the same time, visitors to the second-floor galleries will be able to view the new Paul Brown and the Integration of Ohio Football exhibit and the current Studio M show, Paintings by Melissa Markwald. Fashion Outlaws, It’s Been Awhile, and The Immel Circus. Children will enjoy opening the door of Oscar the skeleton’s closet and families can pose for photographs in the vintage photobooth.

The Celebration in Art exhibition will remain on display through Sunday, February 14. It may be seen during regular Museum hours—Tuesday through Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday, 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. A visit to the Massillon Museum is always free.
