Flood of 1913 in Massillon

Archivist Mandy Pond and intern Liz Rinehart (University of Akron) have been sorting through hundreds of images taken during the flood of 1913. This year marks the centennial of the flood and many activities at the Massillon Museum are focusing on this historic event.

March's history group focused on the flood. As a result, many patrons brought images of the flood to donate to the collection. Intern Liz (seen here) is trying to match our collection to the possible donations made by patrons.

At the next Brown Bag Lunch Series lecture on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 from Noon-1pm, local historian Rudy Turkal will be speaking about the flood and its effects on Massillon. This program is free and open to the public.

Many of the Massillon Museum's photographs will be reproduced for an exhibit at the Stark Parks Exploration Gateway from Saturday, March 23 through December, 2013. Click here for information on the Stark Parks exhibit.
