Traveling Treasures

COMING SOON, FROM THE MASSILLON MUSEUM!! For use in your classrooms!!

The Massillon Museum is in the process of organizing a “Traveling Treasures” program. Teachers will be able to borrow a traveling trunk that contains interesting “treasures” from the museum that relate to a particular historic period or area of interest. Each trunk will contain artifacts particular to the topic; clothing, hats, small, household objects; as well as photos, letters, and any other items that help build a better understanding of the topic. The trunk will also contain a teacher packet. Included in the packet will be teacher guides relevant to the topic, a list of books and films about the topic or time period, a CD with music of the period and a disposable camera for the teacher to record the class activities that relate to the traveling trunk.

The “Traveling Treasures” topics will be listed on the Web Expansion Project page of the Massillon Museum’s website along with the information needed to arrange for borrowing a trunk. Planned topics include: Photography, The American Civil War, Native American Cultures, Clothing from the 1920’s (and other time periods) and trunks focused on certain decades of the 20th.Century. This project is in the planning stage at this time. We are planning to have the first “Traveling Treasures” available in the spring of 2008. It is important to note that the items contained in these trunks will not be items that belong to the permanent collection of the Massillon Museum.
