The Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition will be on display August 4, 2007 - June 29, 2008.

About the Exhibit

*Note: This exhibit closed on June 29, 2008

Each sculpture will be accompanied by a plaque with a brief description and a phone number to call for a free cell phone audio tour. Compliments of Massillon Cable TV, visitors will be able to select each work of art individually on their mobile phones to learn about the artwork, the artist, and the history of the location. "A bonus of the cell phone tour is that people who just happen to come across one of the installations at random will be able to dial the cell phone tour number and learn about the entire exhibition," said Mandy Altimus, the Museum staff member responsible for the audio segment of the project.

"This exhibition is one of the many ways the Museum connects with the community," said the Massillon Museum's Executive Director Christine Shearer, who has co-curated the exhibition. "We promote collaboration with other organizations, and are bringing the museum out into the community in yet another diverse way." Massillon Area Chamber of Commerce President Bob Sanderson co-curated the exhibition. CDs of the entire tour will be available in the Museum shop and MP3s will be available for download on the Museum's website, massillonmuseum.org.

The sculptures will be displayed through June 29, 2008. Watch for details about a photography contest, classes, and a guidebook that will accompany the exhibition. The "Outdoor Sculpture" exhibition has been made possible by the Ohio Arts Council, Arts in Stark, Massillon Cable TV, the Canton/Stark County Convention and Visitorsı Bureau, the Albert W. and Edith V. Flowers Charitable Foundation, Massillon Parks and Recreation Department, Massillon Municipal Court community service workers, the Massillon Area Chamber of Commerce, and Bonnie's Engravers Gallery.
