    Sobriquet
Doors 7:00pm, show begins at 7:30pm
Jazz trio Sobriquet features saxophonist Andy Meyer, guitarist Eli Kahn, and percussionist Arthur Schroeder.
South Bend-based trio, Sobriquet, have come together to write, perform, and stimulate the minds of listeners. This trio, which is made up of saxophonist, Andy Meyer, guitarist, Eli Kahn, and percussionist, Arthur Schroeder, began to come together in the early spring of 2009. The group went through many personel variations in its infancy before setteling into the current line up. The trio's instrumentation, while somewhat fluid, is based largely around each member's abilty to multi-task. Guitarist, Eli Kahn, regularly pulls a 'double-duty,' as he performs primarly on a seven-string guitar, made up of five guitar strings as well as two bass strings. Kahn has also been known to incorporate bells, and a heathy supply of electronic manipulation into his sound. More textures become availble to the group through Meyer's frequent use of multiple saxophones, clarinets, and flute.
Focusing primarily on original composition, the group has come to call their unique aesthetic 'adult-melodic,' which lies somewhere in the fertile ground between jazz, post-rock, and nu-jazz. This self-defined amalgam of sounds borrows and blends often contrasting elements of form, melody, and texture, with passionate improvisation and collective interplay. Live electronic sampling and short phrase looping mixes with longer format composition and an urbane sense of melody to create this eclectic blend. In addition to original material, Sobriquet have been known to rework tunes by the likes of radiohead, nirvana, and more traditional jazz composers into their unique, instrumental mix.
